Bethersden Garden DesignOne of the key aspects of designing a new garden is to take into consideration what lies beyond the client’s boundary; adjoining landscape can often be incorporated into a scheme. For this garden in Bethersden, Kent one of the fundamental factors to its style and layout is the wonderful countryside in which it nestles in. Mr Day, as a starting point to the entire scheme, wanted to transform the plain garden pond lying at the bottom of his garden into something ultimately more exciting yet natural. Our in-house design team were commissioned to produce a landscape which once established would look like it’s been there forever catering to both Mr Day’s desire to compliment the surrounding countryside as well as his wish to support and enhance local biodiversity. The construction teams quickly went to work in decommissioning the old pond and carving out the new shape and extensions for the new pond; all the fish were of course temporarily re-homed! Key design features were incorporated into the new layout including a fantastic reed bed filtration system, ample pond-side planting including a vibrant-flowering meadow plus a repaired timber deck to take advantage of the much improved surroundings. Next stages to the design will incorporate the garden around the house and its transition down, and into, the revitalised pond area. “Now that the Pond is finished I wanted to thank you for all your help and expert advice. Every single plant seems to have taken and taken well! Here’s to Stage 2…” Mr Day
