  • Out On Site – Every Garden Matters

We are incredibly privileged to work on grand estate gardens spanning several acres of rolling countryside but we also work in smaller plots which are equally as meaningful and personal to the owner - both types are just as important to us to get right. We have recently completed a smaller garden project in Ashford, Kent which I popped in to today, although much more modest than some of our other gardens the design process is still exactly the same; very unique to the individual. This client required a stylish space which is easier to maintain and that they can stamp their own mark on. We achieved this with sweeping curves and a limited palette of materials to help 'theme' the area. Artificial lawn was laid and raised beds prepared but not planted so the clients could have fun at the local nursery! We really enjoyed this garden design and build. 818-x-300-5 818-x-300-1 818-x-300-3 818-x-300-2 818-x-300-4
  • Out On Site – Large Tenterden Garden Continues

These last few months seem to have gone by in a blur! We are currently working all over the South East but there is nothing like working on a great project close to home! Our office is based in Tenterden, Kent and we are fortunate to have a wonderful large estate garden design and build project a mere stone-throw away. This project, although presenting difficulties at time, has progressed steadily throughout the year, looking back now at the 'before pictures' really highlights how far we have come. The client wanted to create a contemporary house and have the gardens, on the most part, reflect this. One of the ideas is to capitalise on the stunning views to the rear of the property by creating a terrace which allows the client to 'spill' out of the house and lookout over the estate. We achieved this by using a 'modern ha-ha' approach; a recessed deck sitting in a perfectly flat lawn raised with brick walling with rolling grass beyond. The end result being a seamless viewing area ample enough for entertaining or an early morning coffee and read of the paper. The rear of the house before we started... 818-x-300-17 We needed to make a mess but the end result is worth it... 818-x-300-14 818-x-300-16 818-x-300-12 Elsewhere in the gardens planting continues in the vegetable area seen here... 818-x-300-13 And although the meadow has since been cut down it looked very much the part in this country estate... 818-x-300-15

It does seem that summer is running away from us of late but today brought some lovely sunshine to bathe us as we surveyed our latest design project; a beautiful country estate in Benenden, Kent. Rolling landscape, quaint house, massive sky, I think we will be just fine working on this one... storey

Another visit to one of the gardens we have just completed; a smaller space in Bromley, Greater London. The smaller projects we undertake here are just as important as the larger ones, at the end of the job it's still a client's pride and joy, a new area to make use of and relish the improved prettiness! This garden is a great example of that, what was once an unusable steep space has been transformed sensitively into a curvaceous garden which now feels intimate and not daunting; a real asset for the client. From this cramped space... watson-before To this much more usable garden... watson-1 watson-2 watson-3

I really do enjoy travelling around and taking a look at recently completed projects to make sure the clients are happy. I have just left a smaller garden project recently completed in Biddenden, Kent (walk-through here) and just couldn't stop staring at the planting; our horticulturists have done an amazing job once again. Take a look at the colours of this Achillea 'Coronation Gold', surely the essence of summer. watson-planting
  • Out On Site – 1 Mile Garden Running Track

How do you get your exercise? Maybe walking the dog in the local park or cycling to work? How about a brisk run around your own track! We have had the pleasure of working on various large projects over the years but this 4 hectare private estate near the office in Tenterden, Kent is a real 'wow' scheme! As part of the weekly rounds of our ongoing build projects I popped in to the site to see how recent swathes of planting are doing, to my pleasant surprise the 'natural running track' which we have sensitively constructed to meander around the dense woodland is bordered with thousands upon thousands of bluebells; absolutely beautiful! As a garden designer you always want to make the most of the available space you have to work with, in this extreme example the estate garden design is put together in such a way to allow a very specific requirement for the client; a 1 mile running track to take in all of his wonderful grounds. This is just the start, keep an eye on the upcoming blog posts. 818-x-300-10 818-x-300-9 818-x-300-11
